Health Tested Chocolate and Tan Cocker Spaniel at Stud

County / Town:

Description

A loveable chocolate and tan working Cocker spaniel available at stud.

Fudge Gellisown Fun and Games is a very obedient spaniel who is eager to please and learn. He is great in the house and is able to switch off with ease. He has a great character often making us laugh and gets along with other dogs, our daughter and other children superbly. He is Gamekeeper bred from working lines and has a natural hunting ability but adores to retrieve. He is both a pet and working Gundog.

Fudge excels working on two commercial shoots working up to 6 days/week throughout the season, he is predominantly used as a picking up dog but also used for beating on both partridge and pheasant days. He demonstrates great steadiness in the field yet plenty of eagerness to retrieve long distance runners. He is DNA tested clear for AMS, DM, EIC, FN, GSD VII and prcd-PRA. Fudge has a current clear BVA eye test certificate Feb 2024 and gonioscopy Grade 0 June 2022. I would consider Fudge to be a nice sized cocker spaniel traditional size with a good amount of bone, rather than the more Springer spaniel sized Cockers that you tend to come across quite commonly now.

Has previously thrown black and tan, chocolate and tan, red, chocolate, black and gold offspring.

Stud fee covers two matings 48 hours apart, in the unlikely event that your bitch does not take then you can return for a repeat mating FOC on her subsequent season.

Please get in touch if you'd like to know any more information about this gorgeous boy. Canine pregnancy scan also included by an AUA trained and accredited scanner.

🐶 Buyer’s Checklist for Gun Dogs

Whether you’re buying, selling, or studding a dog, it’s essential to take the right steps to protect yourself—and the animals involved.

  • Always meet the dog in person at the breeder’s home or kennel—never agree to buy without seeing them first.
  • Ask to see the puppies with their Dam (mother), and the Sire (father) if available.
  • Verify all paperwork:
    • Kennel Club (KC) registration number
    • Date of birth
    • Health screening results
  • Prepare questions to ask the breeder. Some helpful ones include:
    • Did you breed the dog(s) yourself?
    • Can I see where they were bred and raised?
    • How old is the Dam, and how many litters has she had?
    • Was the birth natural or via C-section?
    • Are there any known health issues?
    • Can I see documentation for both Dam and Sire?
    • Will the puppy be vaccinated and wormed before purchase?
  • If something feels off, walk away. Don’t ignore red flags.
  • Ask for advice from a trusted third party if you’re unsure.
  • Take your time. This is a big decision—don’t rush it.
  • Puppies should appear happy, healthy, clean, and curious.
  • You should be allowed to see and handle all puppies in the litter, not just the one you're considering.
  • Never buy a puppy younger than 8 weeks old.
  • Avoid any puppies that show signs of illness—e.g. runny eyes, weakness, or diarrhoea.
  • Is the whelping pen clean?
  • Do the dogs have access to fresh water, clean food, and adequate space?
  • The living conditions can say a lot about the breeder’s standards.
  • Ensure you receive the KC registration form and all relevant documents at the time of payment.
  • Write up a simple contract to protect both buyer and seller—especially important in case circumstances change.
  • Never agree to buy a puppy in a car park or public place. Always go to the breeder's premises.

🧠 Final Thought

Buying a gun dog is your responsibility. Do your homework on both the breed and the breeder. Make sure your decision is informed, confident, and in the best interest of the dog.
