Description

From day one, Ghillie WINDFORGE MURIWAI has demonstrated strong true working talent, from his eye-catching hunting style to his marking and game finding ability, all inherited from his Father FT CH Rollafields Redbud at Naxshivan AKA BOOTS… as well as the numerous other FTCH’s found in his pedigree.

Ghillie started out working as a rough shooting and picking up dog, however his ability in the field inspired me to enter him into a mock trial on game, where he won and achieved the dog of the day title!

This saw the beginning of our successful novice working test partnership, achieving 2 Thirds, 1 Second and finally a first, qualifying him as an Open test dog.

Ghillie has qualified for the Scottish Game Fair Any Age Spaniel test for the last two consecutive years. This year he gained an overall 3rd place, the highest scoring Cocker and 3rd highest scoring hunting dog on the day. Not bad against a strong field of springer spaniels!

In 2023/4 he ran in 5 novice field trails gaining invaluable experience. This year we are more prepared and looking forward to running again.

Ghillie is a KC registered, health tested ( FN, AMS prcd_PRA Hereditary clear. BVA/KC ISDA Eye tested Unaffected). easy to train, cheeky working Cocker. Black in color with a blue roan chest plate weighing 12Kg, . He’s soft mouthed, quiet and well-mannered around people, especially children and other dogs. He will produce healthy active pets or fantastic working companions.

Only KC Registered Health tested bitches will be considered.

🐶 Buyer’s Checklist for Gun Dogs

Whether you’re buying, selling, or studding a dog, it’s essential to take the right steps to protect yourself—and the animals involved.

  • Always meet the dog in person at the breeder’s home or kennel—never agree to buy without seeing them first.
  • Ask to see the puppies with their Dam (mother), and the Sire (father) if available.
  • Verify all paperwork:
    • Kennel Club (KC) registration number
    • Date of birth
    • Health screening results
  • Prepare questions to ask the breeder. Some helpful ones include:
    • Did you breed the dog(s) yourself?
    • Can I see where they were bred and raised?
    • How old is the Dam, and how many litters has she had?
    • Was the birth natural or via C-section?
    • Are there any known health issues?
    • Can I see documentation for both Dam and Sire?
    • Will the puppy be vaccinated and wormed before purchase?
  • If something feels off, walk away. Don’t ignore red flags.
  • Ask for advice from a trusted third party if you’re unsure.
  • Take your time. This is a big decision—don’t rush it.
  • Puppies should appear happy, healthy, clean, and curious.
  • You should be allowed to see and handle all puppies in the litter, not just the one you're considering.
  • Never buy a puppy younger than 8 weeks old.
  • Avoid any puppies that show signs of illness—e.g. runny eyes, weakness, or diarrhoea.
  • Is the whelping pen clean?
  • Do the dogs have access to fresh water, clean food, and adequate space?
  • The living conditions can say a lot about the breeder’s standards.
  • Ensure you receive the KC registration form and all relevant documents at the time of payment.
  • Write up a simple contract to protect both buyer and seller—especially important in case circumstances change.
  • Never agree to buy a puppy in a car park or public place. Always go to the breeder's premises.

🧠 Final Thought

Buying a gun dog is your responsibility. Do your homework on both the breed and the breeder. Make sure your decision is informed, confident, and in the best interest of the dog.
