Description
Jura, our much adored working cocker spaniel had a litter of four puppies on 7th April 2026, now 5 plus weeks old. We are keeping one of the bitches; there are still three puppies available - two dogs and one bitch. Both parents are KC registered from working dog stock. Jura has had a KC health check.
Jura is derived from a long line of working stock but we have kept her as a family dog. She is bright, energetic and biddable and was very easy to train. We got her from a game-keeper & breeder in the Borders. Both parents are working dogs. We know two of her sisters who are similarly lively, good natured and biddable dogs.
Jack the father of the puppies is a working gun dog owned by a family friend in Fife. He is also liver coloured, has a lovely nature and is beautifully trained.
The puppies are growing rapidly and becoming v active now. They can all readily escape the whelping den and are becoming little characters. Both the dogs (red and green collars) are entirely liver-coloured save a small white bib and some white on the back toes. The bitch (grey collar) is liver and tan coloured with some white on the chest and also on the back toes. All of the puppies are very 'puppyish' and sweet. They have been handled by the family since birth. They should all make excellent family pets and given their heritage would be good gundogs. They are not docked. We will register them with the kennel club.
They are booked for vaccinations and for a health check by the vet (but not KC DNA testing) and microchipped on 22nd May.
We live on the Isle of Bute which is easy to get to via an hourly ferry 45 minutes from Glasgow. We welcome visits to the puppies by interested people and will happily send videos and updates. For seriously interested parties we can arrange a mutually convenient meeting off the island to see the puppies. I also travel up and down to London for work and although I could not bring a puppy to London or elsewhere en route for viewing I could meet up to deliver a puppy if pre-arranged. They are available from 2nd June when they turn 8 weeks.
Weights today; 'Red' larger dog 2840g, 'Grey' bitch 2650g and ''Green' smaller dog 2400g.
The dogs are £1250 each and the bitch is £1750.

🐶 Buyer’s Checklist for Gun Dogs
Whether you’re buying, selling, or studding a dog, it’s essential to take the right steps to protect yourself—and the animals involved.
- Always meet the dog in person at the breeder’s home or kennel—never agree to buy without seeing them first.
- Ask to see the puppies with their Dam (mother), and the Sire (father) if available.
-
Verify all paperwork:
- Kennel Club (KC) registration number
- Date of birth
- Health screening results
-
Prepare questions to ask the breeder. Some helpful ones include:
- Did you breed the dog(s) yourself?
- Can I see where they were bred and raised?
- How old is the Dam, and how many litters has she had?
- Was the birth natural or via C-section?
- Are there any known health issues?
- Can I see documentation for both Dam and Sire?
- Will the puppy be vaccinated and wormed before purchase?
- If something feels off, walk away. Don’t ignore red flags.
- Ask for advice from a trusted third party if you’re unsure.
- Take your time. This is a big decision—don’t rush it.
- Puppies should appear happy, healthy, clean, and curious.
- You should be allowed to see and handle all puppies in the litter, not just the one you're considering.
- Never buy a puppy younger than 8 weeks old.
- Avoid any puppies that show signs of illness—e.g. runny eyes, weakness, or diarrhoea.
- Is the whelping pen clean?
- Do the dogs have access to fresh water, clean food, and adequate space?
- The living conditions can say a lot about the breeder’s standards.
- Ensure you receive the KC registration form and all relevant documents at the time of payment.
- Write up a simple contract to protect both buyer and seller—especially important in case circumstances change.
- Never agree to buy a puppy in a car park or public place. Always go to the breeder's premises.
