two Year old Maesydderwen/Kiltonbeck Lemon Bitch

County / Town: North Yorkshire

Description

Winnie is a homebred cocker. She is 2 years old and a real loving dog. She would be ideal in either a pet home or a beating home. She is a very hard hunter, not interested in picking up. We recently moved to a new house. We don't have the time to spend to give winnie the 1-2-1 time she needs to get her picking up and hunting close. She is incredibly well bred sire is Ftaw Byrbwll nugget and her dam is Hawkvally Solo - daughter of Oftaw Kiltonbeck Iron who is now living in USA. KC Name Taffywood Winnie.

Winnie had great recall until we moved house a month ago, we are now living right next door to an estate shoot and a farm shoot. Given the amount of birds here compared to what we are used to Winnies recall is now very hit and miss with the amount of birds and scent on the ground she is just keen to hunt all the time and will not stay close. I am finding myself with her on the lead more than off the lead at the moment.

She will walk to heel on and off lead. Sit and wait at distance. Haven't done directions with her as she doesn't have any interest in retrieving though this could be improved with time. She is house trained and rotates between living in the house and outside in the kennel. She loves water and would swim all day if she could - Typical Spaniel. She has never been left to freerome the house she would always be in a crate if not watched as are any of our dogs when inside. She has the sweetest nature and you can 100% trust her around small children our youngest is two. She has a good offswitch and will settle inside. She is great with other dogs never had any issues with that. Very small in size she sits at her heaviest at 9kg. Very slight build, struggle to keep weight on as opposed to her ever being over weight.

I am looking for a 5* home only for winnie, this is a hard decision for us especially with us breeding her ourselves and having her since birth. We just don't have the time she needs and I can't keep having her on the lead every time shes out as it isn't fair. We are looking for either someone who will put the time in to working her as a beating dog or a family that would attend training sessions to improve her recall and have her as a family pet. Currently we couldn't work her on our new shoots, she is used to hunting hard for every bird we find but having switched to picking up and and going from double digit birds on a whole shoot day to hundreds of birds right outside our house has proven very difficult. She would live inside alone, outside she would prefer company she doesn't like being by herself in the kennel. She is a true bramble basher and does not shy at any type of cover. She would be quick and could excel in agility but hasn't done any agility training and would be starting from scratch with a new home.

We have her mum here too. Our instagram for more photos is @taffywoodcockers

Please no time wasters she really is a loved family member and we are sad to have to rehome her.

🐶 Buyer’s Checklist for Gun Dogs

Whether you’re buying, selling, or studding a dog, it’s essential to take the right steps to protect yourself—and the animals involved.

  • Always meet the dog in person at the breeder’s home or kennel—never agree to buy without seeing them first.
  • Ask to see the puppies with their Dam (mother), and the Sire (father) if available.
  • Verify all paperwork:
    • Kennel Club (KC) registration number
    • Date of birth
    • Health screening results
  • Prepare questions to ask the breeder. Some helpful ones include:
    • Did you breed the dog(s) yourself?
    • Can I see where they were bred and raised?
    • How old is the Dam, and how many litters has she had?
    • Was the birth natural or via C-section?
    • Are there any known health issues?
    • Can I see documentation for both Dam and Sire?
    • Will the puppy be vaccinated and wormed before purchase?
  • If something feels off, walk away. Don’t ignore red flags.
  • Ask for advice from a trusted third party if you’re unsure.
  • Take your time. This is a big decision—don’t rush it.
  • Puppies should appear happy, healthy, clean, and curious.
  • You should be allowed to see and handle all puppies in the litter, not just the one you're considering.
  • Never buy a puppy younger than 8 weeks old.
  • Avoid any puppies that show signs of illness—e.g. runny eyes, weakness, or diarrhoea.
  • Is the whelping pen clean?
  • Do the dogs have access to fresh water, clean food, and adequate space?
  • The living conditions can say a lot about the breeder’s standards.
  • Ensure you receive the KC registration form and all relevant documents at the time of payment.
  • Write up a simple contract to protect both buyer and seller—especially important in case circumstances change.
  • Never agree to buy a puppy in a car park or public place. Always go to the breeder's premises.

🧠 Final Thought

Buying a gun dog is your responsibility. Do your homework on both the breed and the breeder. Make sure your decision is informed, confident, and in the best interest of the dog.
