Description

Ginga is a fully trained KC registered dark red and white Cocker Spaniel who just turned 4 in March.

Ginga has been with me since she was an 8 week old puppy, bred in Scotland she has a mixture of field trialing and competent working dogs in her pedigree, her father being Rollafields Redbud a Cocker championship winner.

A huge amount of love and time has gone in to her upbringing and training, she has tested and trialed with me and is an incredible working dog with power and determination. I can’t imagine a day when Ginga will decide to retire herself (like dogs often do) she lives for her work, particularly retrieving which she excels at.

Ginga is used on our commercial shoot for walked up days, of which we do many, and beating on our let days, she works around 35 days a year with us but would be more than capable/willing to do all day every day. Gingas hunting style is flat, wide and methodical which is perfect for our ground which can be heavy and hold birds tight, she is super sharp on the whistle, taking stops immediately and without hesitation. Once she gets into her rhythm you can spit your whistle out and just enjoy your day.

Retrieving is fun with Ginga, she can be put on a line and she won’t give up, she’s an intelligent dog, she views directions as help and responds keenly.

Ginga is silent when working and doesn’t squeak when being cast, I have many videos of her working. As we hold retreiver trials on our shoot she’s the go-to dog for working the line as she doesn’t tire and never runs in.

Ginga does still work with dummies out of season but shows little interest in them during. She loves carrying things around with her but always delivers softly to hand.

Last year Ginga had her first and only litter to date, she was taken to FTCH Tarncrags Razzamataz. She produced 5 well grown puppies who she naturally whelped, they were beautifully marked and the owners are extremely happy with them.

Ginga is fully health tested, including BVA eye exams both GONIO (0) and PRA unaffected, DNA and hips and elbows, she would be ready to be mated again from her next season if so desired. She was a super mother and I would be happy for her to go on to produce another litter.

The home that I would ideally like for Ginga would be a working/pet home as she lived in the house with us until relatively recently (she is kennelled now due to lack of space)

She is fastidiously clean in her crate and kennel and travels well in a car or the back of a bike. She is good with other dogs but not overly submissive and is excellent with children. She works well for both my husband and I so I have no preference of the sex of the person she goes to.

Her price is non-negotiable and reflects her hours of training/experience and also the extensive health testing alongside the fact she is a proven dam in her prime.

Ginga will leave with her KC documents, microchip transfer details, vaccine card, X-rays and proof of eye exams and docking certificate. I can also arrange her veterinary records to be transferred from our vets (Cheviot,Kelso) Ginga has never been to the vets for anything other than vaccines and routine health screening.

If you have any questions about Ginga please get in touch

Delphox gundogs are a training and sporting facility in the Scottish Borders. We have sold a dog to the USA in the past so please don’t hesitate to get in touch if you are interested in Ginga but live abroad, we would be happy to provide a testimony from this sale.

Many thanks for taking the time to read about this super little dog.

🐶 Buyer’s Checklist for Gun Dogs

Whether you’re buying, selling, or studding a dog, it’s essential to take the right steps to protect yourself—and the animals involved.

  • Always meet the dog in person at the breeder’s home or kennel—never agree to buy without seeing them first.
  • Ask to see the puppies with their Dam (mother), and the Sire (father) if available.
  • Verify all paperwork:
    • Kennel Club (KC) registration number
    • Date of birth
    • Health screening results
  • Prepare questions to ask the breeder. Some helpful ones include:
    • Did you breed the dog(s) yourself?
    • Can I see where they were bred and raised?
    • How old is the Dam, and how many litters has she had?
    • Was the birth natural or via C-section?
    • Are there any known health issues?
    • Can I see documentation for both Dam and Sire?
    • Will the puppy be vaccinated and wormed before purchase?
  • If something feels off, walk away. Don’t ignore red flags.
  • Ask for advice from a trusted third party if you’re unsure.
  • Take your time. This is a big decision—don’t rush it.
  • Puppies should appear happy, healthy, clean, and curious.
  • You should be allowed to see and handle all puppies in the litter, not just the one you're considering.
  • Never buy a puppy younger than 8 weeks old.
  • Avoid any puppies that show signs of illness—e.g. runny eyes, weakness, or diarrhoea.
  • Is the whelping pen clean?
  • Do the dogs have access to fresh water, clean food, and adequate space?
  • The living conditions can say a lot about the breeder’s standards.
  • Ensure you receive the KC registration form and all relevant documents at the time of payment.
  • Write up a simple contract to protect both buyer and seller—especially important in case circumstances change.
  • Never agree to buy a puppy in a car park or public place. Always go to the breeder's premises.

🧠 Final Thought

Buying a gun dog is your responsibility. Do your homework on both the breed and the breeder. Make sure your decision is informed, confident, and in the best interest of the dog.
