Beautiful KC Registered Labrador Retriever Puppies

We are delighted to announce that our much-loved working Fox Red Labrador, Fern, welcomed a litter of five Labrador Retriever puppies on 9th June 2026. These puppies will be ready to join their new homes from 4th August.

**1 bitch and 1 dog available**

The Parents

Dam – Fern (KC Name: Northvale Winnie)

Fern is our much-loved working gundog and family pet, bred from proven hereditary working and FTCH bloodlines. She combines a gentle, affectionate temperament with an exceptional work ethic and natural drive in the field.

Although her favourite role is picking up, Fern is equally biddable enough to do many days in the beating line and sits and picks up from peg impeccably. She has proved to be highly trainable, eager to please, and thoroughly enjoys her work. At home, she is calm and relaxed, happily settling into everyday life. Fern is also an excellent swimmer and thrives when working in water.

Fern means the world to us, and our admiration for her was the inspiration behind this carefully planned litter. We will be retaining a puppy ourselves to continue building our team of working gundogs alongside her.

Sire – Timber (KC Name: Ptarmidogs Timber)

Timber is a striking Fox Red working Labrador who is an integral member of a busy picking-up team based in Gloucestershire, completing around 60–70 working days each season. He has proven himself to be a naturally talented, reliable, and enthusiastic working dog.

Away from the field, Timber is a calm, loving, and gentle companion who is fully integrated into family life. He is especially fond of the family's toddler and is often found curled up in bed with him!

Timber is fully health tested with excellent results:

  • Elbows: 0/0
  • Hips: 3/3
  • Eyes: Unaffected
  • DNA Clear: CNM, EIC, HNPK, MCD, prcd-PRA, SD2, STGD
  • COI: 6.8%

We spent considerable time searching for the right stud dog and felt Timber complemented Fern perfectly. Both dogs share outstanding trainability, strong working ability, and, most importantly, kind and steady temperaments. Both are active working gundogs as well as valued family pets, temperament, type and work ethic were key considerations in this pairing. They are also both compact, athletic Labradors, and we hope these qualities will be reflected in their puppies.

Ptarmigan Gun Dogs have active Instagram and Facebook pages that frequently feature Timber, as well as a website – www.ptarmigangundogs.co.uk

🐶 Buyer’s Checklist for Gun Dogs

Whether you’re buying, selling, or studding a dog, it’s essential to take the right steps to protect yourself—and the animals involved.

  • Always meet the dog in person at the breeder’s home or kennel—never agree to buy without seeing them first.
  • Ask to see the puppies with their Dam (mother), and the Sire (father) if available.
  • Verify all paperwork:
    • Kennel Club (KC) registration number
    • Date of birth
    • Health screening results
  • Prepare questions to ask the breeder. Some helpful ones include:
    • Did you breed the dog(s) yourself?
    • Can I see where they were bred and raised?
    • How old is the Dam, and how many litters has she had?
    • Was the birth natural or via C-section?
    • Are there any known health issues?
    • Can I see documentation for both Dam and Sire?
    • Will the puppy be vaccinated and wormed before purchase?

  • If something feels off, walk away. Don’t ignore red flags.
  • Ask for advice from a trusted third party if you’re unsure.
  • Take your time. This is a big decision—don’t rush it.

  • Puppies should appear happy, healthy, clean, and curious.
  • You should be allowed to see and handle all puppies in the litter, not just the one you're considering.
  • Never buy a puppy younger than 8 weeks old.
  • Avoid any puppies that show signs of illness—e.g. runny eyes, weakness, or diarrhoea.

  • Is the whelping pen clean?
  • Do the dogs have access to fresh water, clean food, and adequate space?
  • The living conditions can say a lot about the breeder’s standards.

  • Ensure you receive the KC registration form and all relevant documents at the time of payment.
  • Write up a simple contract to protect both buyer and seller—especially important in case circumstances change.
  • Never agree to buy a puppy in a car park or public place. Always go to the breeder's premises.
