Our beautiful gentle Fern (Threevalleys Djelo) has given birth to a super litter of 10 pups - 3 girls and 7 boys with Billy our very own and much loved Tudorcourt Happy. When people talk about hips/elbows/eyes and pedigree, these guys have got the lot from Elbows of 0, hips of 4 & 6 respectively and eyes all unaffected under BVA/KC/ISDS scheme. And of course both are hereditary clear on all DNA testing offered. Did we mention the 28 Generations stuffed with Field Trial Champions? So if all of this technical stuff has made you read on, then perhaps we can tell you what REALLY makes Fern and Billy special - well, to us anyway. Kind. Gentle. Loyal. Curious. Fit. Healthy and most important of all they are happy dogs that live here on our farm on the Essex/Suffolk border where we raise goats, native and rare breed sheep and a few cattle. Spending the winter months out picking up and beating and the summer enjoying a dip or two in the river, our labs are part of the very fabric of who we are. The care and love we raise our pups with reflects this - from ongoing cuddles and play through to basic training, Fern and Billy’s pups start their lives, before they even move on to their life-long families, learning what it means to be a valued companion and friend. And we want the whole process of the pups moving on to be as calm, straightforward and re-assuring as it can be for them but also for their new families; we offer play dates and pre take home training as well as pupdate videos as well as comprehensive care notes, contract and puppy pack. 🐶 Buyer’s Checklist for Gun Dogs
Whether you’re buying, selling, or studding a dog, it’s essential to take the right steps to protect yourself—and the animals involved.
- Always meet the dog in person at the breeder’s home or kennel—never agree to buy without seeing them first.
- Ask to see the puppies with their Dam (mother), and the Sire (father) if available.

Verify all paperwork:
- Kennel Club (KC) registration number
- Date of birth
- Health screening results

Prepare questions to ask the breeder. Some helpful ones include:
- Did you breed the dog(s) yourself?
- Can I see where they were bred and raised?
- How old is the Dam, and how many litters has she had?
- Was the birth natural or via C-section?
- Are there any known health issues?
- Can I see documentation for both Dam and Sire?
- Will the puppy be vaccinated and wormed before purchase?
- If something feels off, walk away. Don’t ignore red flags.
- Ask for advice from a trusted third party if you’re unsure.
- Take your time. This is a big decision—don’t rush it.
- Puppies should appear happy, healthy, clean, and curious.
- You should be allowed to see and handle all puppies in the litter, not just the one you're considering.
- Never buy a puppy younger than 8 weeks old.
- Avoid any puppies that show signs of illness—e.g. runny eyes, weakness, or diarrhoea.
- Is the whelping pen clean?
- Do the dogs have access to fresh water, clean food, and adequate space?
- The living conditions can say a lot about the breeder’s standards.
- Ensure you receive the KC registration form and all relevant documents at the time of payment.
- Write up a simple contract to protect both buyer and seller—especially important in case circumstances change.
- Never agree to buy a puppy in a car park or public place. Always go to the breeder's premises.
