Big & Very Handsome, 2/3 hips, 0/0 elbows, Part Trained Labrador

County / Town: North Yorkshire

Description

Due to change in personal circumstances our big lad is now looking for his forever home.

He is an exemplary specimen of the Labrador breed and has won mounds of country dog show classes. A proper build, weighing in at 40kgs, all muscle, not an ounce of fat.

We are downsizing and have reduced our days picking up in the field. We sadly are quite simply just not fulfilling our boys needs.

This big lad needs a job, he cannot just be a pet. He can do everyday out in the field through the season. He has worked the grouse moor, partridge and pheasant days.

2/3 hips, 0/0 elbows, DNA tested, and eyes clear, fully proven, KC reg. Panacur and Bravecto done 15th April. We have mum, sister & half sister onsite, great temperaments.

Basic training has been done (heel on & off lead, sits to the whistle, recalls to whistle etc ), may want some polishing up for the season. He has grown up in the house and kennel, around children and chickens. Travels well. Loves an ear and tummy tickle, very soft.

Warts and all - given his sheer size he has been mainly handled by a man and he will whine if just left to fester in a kennel!

Would suit a home where he can run free to his hearts content and have a purpose, this dog wants to please and loves a job. Heartbreaking decision. 5 star home only. Based 20 mins from Pickering. No timewasters or dreamers.

Please email or message only, no signal where we live and we are always out with the dogs.

🐶 Buyer’s Checklist for Gun Dogs

Whether you’re buying, selling, or studding a dog, it’s essential to take the right steps to protect yourself—and the animals involved.

  • Always meet the dog in person at the breeder’s home or kennel—never agree to buy without seeing them first.
  • Ask to see the puppies with their Dam (mother), and the Sire (father) if available.
  • Verify all paperwork:
    • Kennel Club (KC) registration number
    • Date of birth
    • Health screening results
  • Prepare questions to ask the breeder. Some helpful ones include:
    • Did you breed the dog(s) yourself?
    • Can I see where they were bred and raised?
    • How old is the Dam, and how many litters has she had?
    • Was the birth natural or via C-section?
    • Are there any known health issues?
    • Can I see documentation for both Dam and Sire?
    • Will the puppy be vaccinated and wormed before purchase?
  • If something feels off, walk away. Don’t ignore red flags.
  • Ask for advice from a trusted third party if you’re unsure.
  • Take your time. This is a big decision—don’t rush it.
  • Puppies should appear happy, healthy, clean, and curious.
  • You should be allowed to see and handle all puppies in the litter, not just the one you're considering.
  • Never buy a puppy younger than 8 weeks old.
  • Avoid any puppies that show signs of illness—e.g. runny eyes, weakness, or diarrhoea.
  • Is the whelping pen clean?
  • Do the dogs have access to fresh water, clean food, and adequate space?
  • The living conditions can say a lot about the breeder’s standards.
  • Ensure you receive the KC registration form and all relevant documents at the time of payment.
  • Write up a simple contract to protect both buyer and seller—especially important in case circumstances change.
  • Never agree to buy a puppy in a car park or public place. Always go to the breeder's premises.

🧠 Final Thought

Buying a gun dog is your responsibility. Do your homework on both the breed and the breeder. Make sure your decision is informed, confident, and in the best interest of the dog.
