Description
An unexpected change in one of our clients’ circumstances means that an 8‑month‑old KC Registered Black Labrador has recently come back to us — and after assessment, he’s now looking for the right working home, either part-trained as he is or for us to complete his training / or have him closer to ready for this coming season.
Although he has been living in a kennel, he was crate‑trained as a puppy, so with a bit of structure and consistency, he should settle beautifully into indoor life. He has been raw‑fed since weaning, and he’s taken to being back with us with a calm, easy nature.
On the training front, he currently needs some lead work and offlead heel is coming on, his recall is already very good, and he remains quiet and relaxed in the kennel. While back with us, he has also begun to retrieve and deliver to hand, showing plenty of natural promise.
His health background is excellent, with both parents fully tested:
DNA & Eye Tests — all clear
Mum’s hips: 3:5, Elbows: 0:0
Dad’s hips: 3:4, Elbows: 0:0
With his temperament, breeding, and early training, he would make a lovely companion or family pet, especially for someone who’d enjoy doing a bit of gundog training or light work with him along the way.
Various options are available, in that we can continue his training, to a higher level of part-trained, or complete his training and have him out experiencing this next shooting season. We are able to work with you to and open to options.

🐶 Buyer’s Checklist for Gun Dogs
Whether you’re buying, selling, or studding a dog, it’s essential to take the right steps to protect yourself—and the animals involved.
- Always meet the dog in person at the breeder’s home or kennel—never agree to buy without seeing them first.
- Ask to see the puppies with their Dam (mother), and the Sire (father) if available.

- Kennel Club (KC) registration number
- Date of birth
- Health screening results

Prepare questions to ask the breeder. Some helpful ones include:
- Did you breed the dog(s) yourself?
- Can I see where they were bred and raised?
- How old is the Dam, and how many litters has she had?
- Was the birth natural or via C-section?
- Are there any known health issues?
- Can I see documentation for both Dam and Sire?
- Will the puppy be vaccinated and wormed before purchase?
- If something feels off, walk away. Don’t ignore red flags.
- Ask for advice from a trusted third party if you’re unsure.
- Take your time. This is a big decision—don’t rush it.
- Puppies should appear happy, healthy, clean, and curious.
- You should be allowed to see and handle all puppies in the litter, not just the one you're considering.
- Never buy a puppy younger than 8 weeks old.
- Avoid any puppies that show signs of illness—e.g. runny eyes, weakness, or diarrhoea.
- Is the whelping pen clean?
- Do the dogs have access to fresh water, clean food, and adequate space?
- The living conditions can say a lot about the breeder’s standards.
- Ensure you receive the KC registration form and all relevant documents at the time of payment.
- Write up a simple contract to protect both buyer and seller—especially important in case circumstances change.
- Never agree to buy a puppy in a car park or public place. Always go to the breeder's premises.
