Description

Dave 3 years old

Videos of him will not upload please message me and I will send them.

Fully trained, very well bred and stunning looking too

Dave is a beautiful, strong stamp with a stunning head, great with children and other dogs.

He has been brought on slowly to get the best out of him, he has a soft temperament with great drive, very good marking ability and a phenomenal nose.

Steady on the peg with a great ability to switch off when needed.

Very clean in the house with great manners.

He loves water and would make a great duck dog.

He is happy to sit in a pigeon hide with my daughter.

Dave will take direction, left right, go back and blind retrieves.

I have shortened his retrieves now he’s not being prepared for field trials, but he has been training on long memories.

He has been the part of my picking up team last year and regular goes out with my husband who’s a gamekeeper.

I own his full sister, grandsire and mum, who have all is worked in a team with him all last year on ducks grouse pheasants and rabbits.

Like all dogs he has good and bad points and I will list them all, as the correct home is important.

I am more than happy to work with a new owner to perfect him for your requirements, rough shooting or peg.

Dave would’ve been prepared for field trials but my daughter is on a junior Olympic games programme and this has taken up a lot of my spare time.

A shame because I believe we could’ve done quite well together.

I’m happy to share the good the bad and the ugly.

🐶 Buyer’s Checklist for Gun Dogs

Whether you’re buying, selling, or studding a dog, it’s essential to take the right steps to protect yourself—and the animals involved.

  • Always meet the dog in person at the breeder’s home or kennel—never agree to buy without seeing them first.
  • Ask to see the puppies with their Dam (mother), and the Sire (father) if available.
  • Verify all paperwork:
    • Kennel Club (KC) registration number
    • Date of birth
    • Health screening results
  • Prepare questions to ask the breeder. Some helpful ones include:
    • Did you breed the dog(s) yourself?
    • Can I see where they were bred and raised?
    • How old is the Dam, and how many litters has she had?
    • Was the birth natural or via C-section?
    • Are there any known health issues?
    • Can I see documentation for both Dam and Sire?
    • Will the puppy be vaccinated and wormed before purchase?

  • If something feels off, walk away. Don’t ignore red flags.
  • Ask for advice from a trusted third party if you’re unsure.
  • Take your time. This is a big decision—don’t rush it.

  • Puppies should appear happy, healthy, clean, and curious.
  • You should be allowed to see and handle all puppies in the litter, not just the one you're considering.
  • Never buy a puppy younger than 8 weeks old.
  • Avoid any puppies that show signs of illness—e.g. runny eyes, weakness, or diarrhoea.

  • Is the whelping pen clean?
  • Do the dogs have access to fresh water, clean food, and adequate space?
  • The living conditions can say a lot about the breeder’s standards.

  • Ensure you receive the KC registration form and all relevant documents at the time of payment.
  • Write up a simple contract to protect both buyer and seller—especially important in case circumstances change.
  • Never agree to buy a puppy in a car park or public place. Always go to the breeder's premises.
