As honest as an add can be ..

Here we have Remi, a 3 year old liver and tan cocker bitch. She wasn’t bred by us she was bought as a puppy. She is a part of our family and our beating team during the season. If we find the right home this will be a really sad sale.

Remis kc name is moelfamau bizzy, she is incredibly well bred health tested for both dna and eyes through bva including gonio. She would make both a great working dog or an active pet. Emphasis on the active as she lacks patience.

The reason for the sale is that we have mostly switched from beating to picking up and although remi would make a great walk up/rough shooting dog she has a tendency to whine on the peg.

We moved house a few months ago and since we moved remi has been living outside in stables due to house renovations, however, prior to moving here she lived inside. She is house trained and crate trained. I personally have found her easier living outside as she is a little like a bull in a china shop sometimes and takes longer to settle/switch off and relax than my other cockers. Occasionally she can bark whilst in the kennel mostly on an evening if it’s past her tea time/ first thing when she wants to come out.

Remi knows the basics; walk to heal, sit and wait and has good recall. She is very loyal and doesn’t venture far when hunting. She will pick absolutely anything and has worked the last two seasons beating with us on the two small family shoots we attend. She is very eager to train and learn. She definitely isn’t your lazy sofa dog she wants to be up, about and busy (her kc name suits her well)

We have had two lovely litters from remi with amazing feedback from the owners using the same dog both times. She will be sold on a strictly no breeding contract.

The home must be the right home for remi otherwise she will not be leaving us. Given the direction we are heading with regards to the type of work we can offer Remi she would much prefer beating or rough shooting. She’s fabulous at picking up but not so patient sat waiting and is often whiny at times when she doesn’t have your attention.

🐶 Buyer’s Checklist for Gun Dogs

Whether you’re buying, selling, or studding a dog, it’s essential to take the right steps to protect yourself—and the animals involved.

  • Always meet the dog in person at the breeder’s home or kennel—never agree to buy without seeing them first.
  • Ask to see the puppies with their Dam (mother), and the Sire (father) if available.
  • Verify all paperwork:
    • Kennel Club (KC) registration number
    • Date of birth
    • Health screening results
  • Prepare questions to ask the breeder. Some helpful ones include:
    • Did you breed the dog(s) yourself?
    • Can I see where they were bred and raised?
    • How old is the Dam, and how many litters has she had?
    • Was the birth natural or via C-section?
    • Are there any known health issues?
    • Can I see documentation for both Dam and Sire?
    • Will the puppy be vaccinated and wormed before purchase?

  • If something feels off, walk away. Don’t ignore red flags.
  • Ask for advice from a trusted third party if you’re unsure.
  • Take your time. This is a big decision—don’t rush it.

  • Puppies should appear happy, healthy, clean, and curious.
  • You should be allowed to see and handle all puppies in the litter, not just the one you're considering.
  • Never buy a puppy younger than 8 weeks old.
  • Avoid any puppies that show signs of illness—e.g. runny eyes, weakness, or diarrhoea.

  • Is the whelping pen clean?
  • Do the dogs have access to fresh water, clean food, and adequate space?
  • The living conditions can say a lot about the breeder’s standards.

  • Ensure you receive the KC registration form and all relevant documents at the time of payment.
  • Write up a simple contract to protect both buyer and seller—especially important in case circumstances change.
  • Never agree to buy a puppy in a car park or public place. Always go to the breeder's premises.
