Description
Angus – Glenugie’s Xero
Date of Birth: 16/07/2019
PLEASE NOTE – UPDATE ON AVAILABILITY
Due to an unexpected change in circumstances within our picking-up team, we have made the decision to retain Angus for the remainder of the busy part of the shooting season.
Angus will still be available to the right working home later in the year, and we are more than happy to welcome genuine enquiries in the meantime.
Thank you for your understanding.
Angus is a much-loved and highly valued member of our team, and the decision to find him a new home has certainly not been an easy one.
Our reasons for offering him are entirely genuine. With younger dogs coming through, Angus simply isn’t getting the amount of work he enjoys and deserves. He has so much to offer the right person, and we would love to see him enjoying life to the fullest.
Working Ability
Angus is a fabulous all-round shooting companion with plenty of experience in the field. He hunts well, stops, retrieves beautifully and has superb game-finding ability. He takes directions well and is a confident, capable retriever on both land and water.
He has experience rough shooting, beating and picking up, and is a reliable, trustworthy dog who is an absolute pleasure to have out for a day’s shooting.
He is not being offered as a trialling prospect, as he doesn’t have the extra gears required for that level of competition. However, as a genuine, dependable shooting companion, he has a great deal to offer.
Temperament & Home Life
Angus really is a lovely dog with a temperament to die for. He is easy to have around, gets along happily with both males and females, and is equally content in his own company.
He is clean in both the house and kennel, has lovely manners and never causes any bother. He’s the sort of dog who is just as enjoyable to live with as he is to work.
Build & Health
Standing approximately 38cm tall and weighing 12kg, Angus is athletic, strong and compactly built.
DNA Clear:
- AMS
- FN
- prcd-PRA
- PP
Additional Health Tests:
- Eyes – Clear
- Gonioscopy – Grade 0
- Hips – 6/7 (Total 13)
- Elbows – 0/0
- Patellas – 0/0
The Ideal Home
Our first choice would be a genuine working home where Angus can continue doing what he loves, whether that’s rough shooting, beating, picking up or simply enjoying regular days out in the field.
Equally, we would be more than happy to see him retire completely from shooting and enjoy life in an active, loving home where he can be someone’s best pal.
Above all else, the right home matters far more to us than the type of home. Angus is a very special dog who has given us a great deal, and we owe it to him to find somewhere he will be just as valued and appreciated.
This is an incredibly difficult sale, and one we haven’t taken lightly. He is, quite simply, a cracking little dog with a wonderful nature and an absolute pleasure to have around.
Genuine enquiries only, please. No time wasters.
We would love to hear from anyone seriously looking for their next trusted shooting companion or simply a wonderful dog to share their life with.
Please contact us by phone or WhatsApp for further information.

🐶 Buyer’s Checklist for Gun Dogs
Whether you’re buying, selling, or studding a dog, it’s essential to take the right steps to protect yourself—and the animals involved.
- Always meet the dog in person at the breeder’s home or kennel—never agree to buy without seeing them first.
- Ask to see the puppies with their Dam (mother), and the Sire (father) if available.
-
Verify all paperwork:
- Kennel Club (KC) registration number
- Date of birth
- Health screening results
-
Prepare questions to ask the breeder. Some helpful ones include:
- Did you breed the dog(s) yourself?
- Can I see where they were bred and raised?
- How old is the Dam, and how many litters has she had?
- Was the birth natural or via C-section?
- Are there any known health issues?
- Can I see documentation for both Dam and Sire?
- Will the puppy be vaccinated and wormed before purchase?
- If something feels off, walk away. Don’t ignore red flags.
- Ask for advice from a trusted third party if you’re unsure.
- Take your time. This is a big decision—don’t rush it.
- Puppies should appear happy, healthy, clean, and curious.
- You should be allowed to see and handle all puppies in the litter, not just the one you're considering.
- Never buy a puppy younger than 8 weeks old.
- Avoid any puppies that show signs of illness—e.g. runny eyes, weakness, or diarrhoea.
- Is the whelping pen clean?
- Do the dogs have access to fresh water, clean food, and adequate space?
- The living conditions can say a lot about the breeder’s standards.
- Ensure you receive the KC registration form and all relevant documents at the time of payment.
- Write up a simple contract to protect both buyer and seller—especially important in case circumstances change.
- Never agree to buy a puppy in a car park or public place. Always go to the breeder's premises.
