Description

1 black dog remaining from an exceptional litter. Sire FTCh Brocklebank Boorbon of Ravencote (Barney), who is sired by IGL Winner FTCh Asterix Aguzannis of Chatsworth (Astra). His dam is Field Trial Winner Mekoro Duck Diver, who is the full brother to 2x Open Field Trial Winner Mekoro Shot Marker of Waterford. Nora has sired Field Trial Winners as well as working test winners (OFTAW Mekoro Make No Promises). See full pedigree in the pictures.

The puppy is now 9 weeks old and ready to go. He did have a home lined up but unfortunately a mild, umbilical hernia was detected around 8 weeks old and so is now available for a new home 🏡. This hernia is not a health defect, he is 100% fit and healthy, he has a wonderful, cheeky character with an already eager ability to retrieve. See the pictures of the hernia.

He is Microchipped, vet checked with a signed record, had 1st vaccination, wormed to date, will leave with insurance and all KC doc, pedigree and 1 weeks of food. Fully licensed breeding kennel with 5* rating. Experienced, loving breeder with puppies being brought up both outside on the working farm, getting experience of loud noises, machines and other dogs yet also brought up in our home environment with our 3 young children, cats and all the usual household noises.

Sire (Barney) health tests:

Hips: 2:3, elbows: 0:0, eyes clear 2024, DNA Clear for PRCD-PRA, CNM, SD2, EIC, MCD, STGD

Dam (Nora) health tests:

Hips: 2:5, Elbows: 0:0, Eyes clear 2024, DNA clear for PRCD-PRA, EIC, CNM, SD2, HNPK, MCD. Carrier for STGD (sire is clear, so no puppies will be affected).

See mating summary in the pictures which includes more information on both parents, as well as more information on my website & videos of the puppies on facebook @mekorolabradors.

🐶 Buyer’s Checklist for Gun Dogs

Whether you’re buying, selling, or studding a dog, it’s essential to take the right steps to protect yourself—and the animals involved.

  • Always meet the dog in person at the breeder’s home or kennel—never agree to buy without seeing them first.
  • Ask to see the puppies with their Dam (mother), and the Sire (father) if available.
  • Verify all paperwork:
    • Kennel Club (KC) registration number
    • Date of birth
    • Health screening results
  • Prepare questions to ask the breeder. Some helpful ones include:
    • Did you breed the dog(s) yourself?
    • Can I see where they were bred and raised?
    • How old is the Dam, and how many litters has she had?
    • Was the birth natural or via C-section?
    • Are there any known health issues?
    • Can I see documentation for both Dam and Sire?
    • Will the puppy be vaccinated and wormed before purchase?

  • If something feels off, walk away. Don’t ignore red flags.
  • Ask for advice from a trusted third party if you’re unsure.
  • Take your time. This is a big decision—don’t rush it.

  • Puppies should appear happy, healthy, clean, and curious.
  • You should be allowed to see and handle all puppies in the litter, not just the one you're considering.
  • Never buy a puppy younger than 8 weeks old.
  • Avoid any puppies that show signs of illness—e.g. runny eyes, weakness, or diarrhoea.

  • Is the whelping pen clean?
  • Do the dogs have access to fresh water, clean food, and adequate space?
  • The living conditions can say a lot about the breeder’s standards.

  • Ensure you receive the KC registration form and all relevant documents at the time of payment.
  • Write up a simple contract to protect both buyer and seller—especially important in case circumstances change.
  • Never agree to buy a puppy in a car park or public place. Always go to the breeder's premises.
