Beautiful Litter of health tested, KC registered puppies parented by Annie and Joe

Annie – Argoedderyn mount Pearl of Twyfordbury

Annie is our black labrador bitch. Annie was the pick of the litter and we were very lucky to have her join our home and shooting team. She is a pet as well as a working gundog, usually working 1-2 days per week in the shooting season. She is living inside and is well loved by our young family including the children, 7&2. We have a cocker spaniel too, aged 10 who has competed in Novice field trials and also worked many shooting days. Main work for Annie is Wildfowling and on the peg when pheasant shooting. She’s as happy in our living room in front of the fire as she is jumping in to an ice cold estuary to retrieve ducks for the table. She is fit, athletic with a strong head shape but unlike our cocker, she has an off switch and can relax. She’s had half of the time invested in her training that we put in to our cocker, but with better results. A joy to train and see her natural game finding nose, working things out.   Her Dam is Argoed Deryn DDU who is a well worked black lab working 1-2 days per week in South Wales. Annie is sired by Ffynongain Buzzard of Wauniago – A very well known, powerful, Fox red dog that has many awards, and been in the Kennel club championships and featured in the Welsh Gundog team. Buzz won a Novice Trial on his second birthday in Cornwall, January 2018, in the 2019/20 season, Buzz competed in five Open trials: third place at the Westward two-day Open & Winner of the North West Labrador Retriever Club’s two-day Open. In 2019, Buzz qualified for and competed in the prestigious International Gundog League (IGL) Retriever Championship where he ran an exceptional trial over three days. He Placed 4th overall, with one of the most memorable retrieves of the event—picking a live bird unaided, which earned applause from the gallery.

Joe – ETTINSMOOR KANGAROO JOE

Joe is Joe is Skip (FTW Garicmoor Grenadier of Ettinsmoor) and Folly's (Ettinsmoor Firefly) son bred by Jill at Ettinsmoor.  He is described by Jill as an uncomplicated dog who takes everything in his stride. He has several seasons picking up under his belt and a successful Working Test career. Jill says he is probably the easiest dog she has ever trained with such a calm, laid back temperament. He's happy to lie down and have a snooze between drives out on the shoot but is awake and alert when the shooting starts! His particular favourite is picking game in sugar beet. Its what makes him tick! He has been producing some lovely pups with his calm, kind temperament. His pups are competing in Field Trials, Working Tests, Picking Up, Peg Dogs, Agility Dogs. Having spent time with Joe and some of the puppies he has sired (we had a smaller litter 18 months ago also to Joe – two puppies), we felt that the calmness and ease of training would be a desirable combination with Annie and this has proven to be the case.

🐶 Buyer’s Checklist for Gun Dogs

Whether you’re buying, selling, or studding a dog, it’s essential to take the right steps to protect yourself—and the animals involved.

  • Always meet the dog in person at the breeder’s home or kennel—never agree to buy without seeing them first.
  • Ask to see the puppies with their Dam (mother), and the Sire (father) if available.
  • Verify all paperwork:
    • Kennel Club (KC) registration number
    • Date of birth
    • Health screening results
  • Prepare questions to ask the breeder. Some helpful ones include:
    • Did you breed the dog(s) yourself?
    • Can I see where they were bred and raised?
    • How old is the Dam, and how many litters has she had?
    • Was the birth natural or via C-section?
    • Are there any known health issues?
    • Can I see documentation for both Dam and Sire?
    • Will the puppy be vaccinated and wormed before purchase?

  • If something feels off, walk away. Don’t ignore red flags.
  • Ask for advice from a trusted third party if you’re unsure.
  • Take your time. This is a big decision—don’t rush it.

  • Puppies should appear happy, healthy, clean, and curious.
  • You should be allowed to see and handle all puppies in the litter, not just the one you're considering.
  • Never buy a puppy younger than 8 weeks old.
  • Avoid any puppies that show signs of illness—e.g. runny eyes, weakness, or diarrhoea.

  • Is the whelping pen clean?
  • Do the dogs have access to fresh water, clean food, and adequate space?
  • The living conditions can say a lot about the breeder’s standards.

  • Ensure you receive the KC registration form and all relevant documents at the time of payment.
  • Write up a simple contract to protect both buyer and seller—especially important in case circumstances change.
  • Never agree to buy a puppy in a car park or public place. Always go to the breeder's premises.
