Ted has been tested for 206 genetic DNA tests, conducted by WisomPanel UK on 19/02/2021 - there was no detection of any known genetic health predispositions in Ted’s DNA. This makes him one of the most rigorously health tested Labradors in the UK. 

Ted has excellent Estimated Breeding Value's (EBVs) for hip dysplasia and elbow dysplasia, therefore potentially reducing the risk of producing puppies with hip and elbow dysplasia.

Ted is a strong and athletic dark yellow Labrador, with an ideal temperament, nature and attitude; he is extremely loyal and biddable. He is a joy to train and plays a huge part in my picking-up team. 

In September 2021 he qualified for the 2021 IGL Retriever Championship by winning the Barton on Humber 2 Day Open Field Trial. Ted ran well at the Championship in December, getting through to the third day. Ted gained his FTCh status in 2022 season by wining the Cornwall FTS one day Open Stake. 

Ted is homebred, I own and trained his mother - FTCh The Windbreak Whisperer of Arcklebear, who has been a very consistent competitor in Field Trials, qualifying for the IGL Retriever Championship 2019.

Safety Tips

Here are some tips to keep you safe whilst buying, selling or studding your dog.

  • Make sure you see the gun dog in person at the breeders location before you pay any monies.
  • Make sure you see the puppies with the Dam and possibly with the Sire if he is available.
  • Make sure you have checked all the paper is correct and checked the KC number and their dates of birth.
  • If something seems not right you can walk away, but make sure you ask lots of questions. Some examples could be: Did you breed the dog(s) yourself? Can I see where they were breed? Can I see the Dam? How old is the mother and how many litters has she had? Was the birth natural or C section? Can I see the farther? Does the dog in question have any health issues? Can you see the registration of the Dam and Sire? Will they be vaccinated and wormed before I purchase?
  • Always be vigilant and seek advice if you are unsure and ask for advice from a third party.
  • Only when you are absolutely sure about the dog and the breeder do we advise you go ahead with your purchase.
  • Buying a gun dog is YOUR responsibility so make sure you have done your homework about the breed of dog and the breeder who is selling. Don’t rush the process!
  • The breeder should give you the opportunity to see and handle all of the puppies in the litter, rather than the one you are buying.
  • The puppies should appear happy, healthily and inquisitive.
  • The breeder should not be selling puppies that are unwell or shows signs of illness like runny eyes or weakness or diarrhoea.
  • The breeder should only sell you the pup once they are 8 week old.
  • Make sure you see the puppies environment. Is the whelping pen clean? Do the dogs have clean water and food? All this helps you formulate your decision when purchasing the gun dogs in question.
  • Make sure you write up a contract to safe guard you and the breeder should your situations change.
  • Do not leave without the KC registration form. Make sure you have all the documents in your hand with the dog once payment is made.
  • Never buy a gun dog in a car park, always go to the breeder establishment.
