Description

This is Duke. He is 1 of 5 labs we own including his mother and son. He is well proven with wonderful litters. Duke's litters have ranged from producing 6 to 13 puppies.

He is from working blood with a fantastic line containing many fields trial champions and winners in his pedigree.

Duke is a fantastic gundog with incredible drive, steadiness and a great eagerness to please. He works every season and is always impecably behaved!

We bred him myself so his mother and 1 of his sons can also be seen when visiting for stud. Duke is a fantastic dog, he is really gentle and loving and has proven easy to train. He impressed a dog behaviourist so much when he met him and observed him on a walk that he purchased 2 of his puppies from a litter.

Duke is also a brilliant family pet. He is fantastic with the kids and is as happy being a sofa dog all day as he is out working all day.

Duke's father is a brilliant fox red working lab who regularly worked the shooting season. Meaning Duke carries the yellow colour gene.

He has been health tested and these are as follows:

KC name Duke of Golden Hercules

Eyes - clear (valid until March 2027)

Elbows - 0/0

Hips - 6/7

DNA

Centronuclear myopathy (CNM) - clear

Degenerative myelopathy - clear

Exercise induced collapse (EIC)- clear

Hyperuricosuria - clear

Hereditary nasal parakeratosis (HNPK)- clear

Progressive retinal atrophy (prcd- PRA) -clear

Skeletal Dysplasia 2 (SK2) - clear

Stud fee includes 2 matings usually 24-48 hours apart. But we are flexible and work with bitch owners to try to maximise the chance of successful pregnancy.

🐶 Buyer’s Checklist for Gun Dogs

Whether you’re buying, selling, or studding a dog, it’s essential to take the right steps to protect yourself—and the animals involved.

  • Always meet the dog in person at the breeder’s home or kennel—never agree to buy without seeing them first.
  • Ask to see the puppies with their Dam (mother), and the Sire (father) if available.
  • Verify all paperwork:
    • Kennel Club (KC) registration number
    • Date of birth
    • Health screening results
  • Prepare questions to ask the breeder. Some helpful ones include:
    • Did you breed the dog(s) yourself?
    • Can I see where they were bred and raised?
    • How old is the Dam, and how many litters has she had?
    • Was the birth natural or via C-section?
    • Are there any known health issues?
    • Can I see documentation for both Dam and Sire?
    • Will the puppy be vaccinated and wormed before purchase?

  • If something feels off, walk away. Don’t ignore red flags.
  • Ask for advice from a trusted third party if you’re unsure.
  • Take your time. This is a big decision—don’t rush it.

  • Puppies should appear happy, healthy, clean, and curious.
  • You should be allowed to see and handle all puppies in the litter, not just the one you're considering.
  • Never buy a puppy younger than 8 weeks old.
  • Avoid any puppies that show signs of illness—e.g. runny eyes, weakness, or diarrhoea.

  • Is the whelping pen clean?
  • Do the dogs have access to fresh water, clean food, and adequate space?
  • The living conditions can say a lot about the breeder’s standards.

  • Ensure you receive the KC registration form and all relevant documents at the time of payment.
  • Write up a simple contract to protect both buyer and seller—especially important in case circumstances change.
  • Never agree to buy a puppy in a car park or public place. Always go to the breeder's premises.
