Description

💛 Black Labrador Bitch – “Lilly” – Exceptional Working & Family Dog

Lilly is a fast, driven, confident black Labrador with no fear of cover, water, noise, or terrain. She has excelled in every setting — ducks, rivers, stone walls, rough ground, and driven shoot days. Fully socialised, steady, and naturally confident, she is as enthusiastic as she is reliable.

Her accomplishments include:

Top Novice Dog at the National Irish Team Shield (Celtic Challenge)

Multiple working test awards

Outstanding, impeccable natural marking ability

Reads ground and understands the game instantly

Years of picking-up experience

Speed, drive, intelligence, and total commitment to the job

Gentle, loving, well-mannered family dog at home

Health:

Fully health tested – hips, elbows, eyes

Annual vet checks from pup to now

Eyes tested again in 2025

Full blood panel done — completely clear on all fronts

Vaccinated, wormed, and fully up to date

Her two litters have produced pups now winning working tests across Ireland, Scotland, and England.

Lilly would be a perfect match for the UK working test season next spring/summer. Her marking, steadiness, and natural game sense will put any newcomer or experienced handler straight into the awards.

Pedigree

Sire: Copper Birch Mandela — International Field Trial Champion, sire of multiple champions across Ireland and the UK.

Dam line: A proven Irish working bitch line with generations of field trial winners and champions.

Why She’s Available

Lilly is 7 years old, still full of drive, sharpness, and ability. With a young family, a growing business, and kids’ activities every evening, I can no longer give her the time or shoot exposure she thrives on.

For her sake — and to let her enjoy the last years of her working life at the level she deserves — I’m looking for a home where she will be worked, appreciated, and genuinely enjoyed.

Ideal Home

Retired individual, couple, or family

Someone who picks up a few days a week

A home with other dogs

Someone who understands and values working Labradors

No further breeding – papers carry an endorsement

If You Feel You’re the Right Fit

Please get in touch if you can offer Lilly the working life and companionship she thrives on. She has a huge amount to offer the right man or woman.

Transport to Ireland, Scotland, and England can be arranged within 2–3 days.

🐶 Buyer’s Checklist for Gun Dogs

Whether you’re buying, selling, or studding a dog, it’s essential to take the right steps to protect yourself—and the animals involved.

  • Always meet the dog in person at the breeder’s home or kennel—never agree to buy without seeing them first.
  • Ask to see the puppies with their Dam (mother), and the Sire (father) if available.
  • Verify all paperwork:
    • Kennel Club (KC) registration number
    • Date of birth
    • Health screening results
  • Prepare questions to ask the breeder. Some helpful ones include:
    • Did you breed the dog(s) yourself?
    • Can I see where they were bred and raised?
    • How old is the Dam, and how many litters has she had?
    • Was the birth natural or via C-section?
    • Are there any known health issues?
    • Can I see documentation for both Dam and Sire?
    • Will the puppy be vaccinated and wormed before purchase?

  • If something feels off, walk away. Don’t ignore red flags.
  • Ask for advice from a trusted third party if you’re unsure.
  • Take your time. This is a big decision—don’t rush it.

  • Puppies should appear happy, healthy, clean, and curious.
  • You should be allowed to see and handle all puppies in the litter, not just the one you're considering.
  • Never buy a puppy younger than 8 weeks old.
  • Avoid any puppies that show signs of illness—e.g. runny eyes, weakness, or diarrhoea.

  • Is the whelping pen clean?
  • Do the dogs have access to fresh water, clean food, and adequate space?
  • The living conditions can say a lot about the breeder’s standards.

  • Ensure you receive the KC registration form and all relevant documents at the time of payment.
  • Write up a simple contract to protect both buyer and seller—especially important in case circumstances change.
  • Never agree to buy a puppy in a car park or public place. Always go to the breeder's premises.
