Description

Scally is a 5 year old yellow Labrador bitch. She has spent the past 4 seasons picking up with a mixed team of my dogs, she is currently kennelled with 3 other bitches whom he also travels with and walks with the pack off season.

As a youngster she wouldn't take the pressure of training to handle on retrieves, for example she could do a memory lane of 4 dummies, pick 3 perfectly then when asked to go for the 4th refuse, so I gave up training her for handling and instead she is used for marked retrieves of runners etc during a drive and sweeps with the pack after,  she will sit perfectly steady and never needs a lead on, she will walk to heel no bother. Originally brought up in the house but then kennelled so if needed would need re housetrained. She's picked all manners of game on land and in water. She will jump in and out of shared vehicles, will jump fences on command, and jump on her own volition if working a runner. She has a nice soft delivery to hand on retrieves, makes no noise working or kennelled.

Not spayed and never bred from. KC Registered but not health tested as i'd not planned to breed off her. Was eye tested clear 2022 but nothing else done.  Microchipped and vaccinations not kept up to date.

Genuine reluctant sale due to a change in direction working dog wise.

Seeking: An active working home — ideally a rural kennel environment with regular work picking up or even as a peg dog.

Serious enquiries only, please. Email in the first instance with details of the home on offer, this isn't a first come first get scenario I want to ensure she gets the right working home, not one used for breeding but a kind working home or she will stay with me.

🐶 Buyer’s Checklist for Gun Dogs

Whether you’re buying, selling, or studding a dog, it’s essential to take the right steps to protect yourself—and the animals involved.

  • Always meet the dog in person at the breeder’s home or kennel—never agree to buy without seeing them first.
  • Ask to see the puppies with their Dam (mother), and the Sire (father) if available.
  • Verify all paperwork:
    • Kennel Club (KC) registration number
    • Date of birth
    • Health screening results
  • Prepare questions to ask the breeder. Some helpful ones include:
    • Did you breed the dog(s) yourself?
    • Can I see where they were bred and raised?
    • How old is the Dam, and how many litters has she had?
    • Was the birth natural or via C-section?
    • Are there any known health issues?
    • Can I see documentation for both Dam and Sire?
    • Will the puppy be vaccinated and wormed before purchase?

  • If something feels off, walk away. Don’t ignore red flags.
  • Ask for advice from a trusted third party if you’re unsure.
  • Take your time. This is a big decision—don’t rush it.

  • Puppies should appear happy, healthy, clean, and curious.
  • You should be allowed to see and handle all puppies in the litter, not just the one you're considering.
  • Never buy a puppy younger than 8 weeks old.
  • Avoid any puppies that show signs of illness—e.g. runny eyes, weakness, or diarrhoea.

  • Is the whelping pen clean?
  • Do the dogs have access to fresh water, clean food, and adequate space?
  • The living conditions can say a lot about the breeder’s standards.

  • Ensure you receive the KC registration form and all relevant documents at the time of payment.
  • Write up a simple contract to protect both buyer and seller—especially important in case circumstances change.
  • Never agree to buy a puppy in a car park or public place. Always go to the breeder's premises.
