Description

Vinnie - Eborakon Brutus Von Mathershill

OFTW Eborakon Anna Dom '22 British champs x FTCH Helmsway Happy Times his 5 generation pedigree only contains one dog that hasn't gained a trial award.

He is a nicely marked, athletic dog with fast pace and hunting manner, I would describe him as a "hot dog" he would hunt grass if you asked him.

Very thorough, loves bramble and white grass alike. takes good lines on retrieves and will pick all manner of game with a soft mouth.

he LOVES to please and has such a lovely soft temperament but will hunt all day with the same pace He started.

a great addition to any team, we are excited to see how his offspring will come on.

Caffer - Syncerus Scandal of Mathershill

a very strong, well boned dog that comes from, in my opinion one of the best Modern bitch lines in ESS. He goes back to Syncerus Sally on both sides with his Dam being an OFTAW.

Although a young dog, he acts much older than his years. End of 2023/24 season has been out beating and picking up, having picked fur and feather on land and water including runners with no issues. He will pick bramble and bracken over light cover to hunt all day long. He takes after his mother who is also here and I have never seen a dog hit cover like she does, she's suicidal almost!

Mute in and out of the Kennel, Extremely soft mouthed in all situations. Handles pressure well. When I say I have barely touched him training wise, he is pretty much all naturally self taught. A dream in my eyes that he was born half trained with his ability to use wind and different scenting conditions. Unflappable in any conditions has worked on large shoots last few weeks and takes it all in.

He would suit those looking to put some size and stature back into their pups, along with the best temperament and biddability.

🐶 Buyer’s Checklist for Gun Dogs

Whether you’re buying, selling, or studding a dog, it’s essential to take the right steps to protect yourself—and the animals involved.

  • Always meet the dog in person at the breeder’s home or kennel—never agree to buy without seeing them first.
  • Ask to see the puppies with their Dam (mother), and the Sire (father) if available.
  • Verify all paperwork:
    • Kennel Club (KC) registration number
    • Date of birth
    • Health screening results
  • Prepare questions to ask the breeder. Some helpful ones include:
    • Did you breed the dog(s) yourself?
    • Can I see where they were bred and raised?
    • How old is the Dam, and how many litters has she had?
    • Was the birth natural or via C-section?
    • Are there any known health issues?
    • Can I see documentation for both Dam and Sire?
    • Will the puppy be vaccinated and wormed before purchase?
  • If something feels off, walk away. Don’t ignore red flags.
  • Ask for advice from a trusted third party if you’re unsure.
  • Take your time. This is a big decision—don’t rush it.
  • Puppies should appear happy, healthy, clean, and curious.
  • You should be allowed to see and handle all puppies in the litter, not just the one you're considering.
  • Never buy a puppy younger than 8 weeks old.
  • Avoid any puppies that show signs of illness—e.g. runny eyes, weakness, or diarrhoea.
  • Is the whelping pen clean?
  • Do the dogs have access to fresh water, clean food, and adequate space?
  • The living conditions can say a lot about the breeder’s standards.
  • Ensure you receive the KC registration form and all relevant documents at the time of payment.
  • Write up a simple contract to protect both buyer and seller—especially important in case circumstances change.
  • Never agree to buy a puppy in a car park or public place. Always go to the breeder's premises.

🧠 Final Thought

Buying a gun dog is your responsibility. Do your homework on both the breed and the breeder. Make sure your decision is informed, confident, and in the best interest of the dog.
